Biometric blood vessel verification

Give me five!  A new standard for biometric identification may lie in the palms of our hands, according to Snowflake Technologies. They have plans to bring a vein-viewing palm reader to the market next year, challenging the more common practises of fingerprinting and retinal scans.

Palm Reading Biometric

Having just secured $6m in private funding in a deal brokered by Starlight Investments, Snowflake’s CEO James Phillips believes the new blood vessel scanning can eclipse other forms of biometric identification. This goal is certainly a worthy one, in an industry worth $1bn in 2006.

Set to “read your veins like a bar code”, the new system will be competitively priced; a $400-1000 tag is expected. Snowflake will target financial institutions and government agencies such as the CIA and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
