Rimax offers hygienic palm scanning

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006

The Rimax Staff On Time Palm Scan is a palm reader which uniquely identifies users by their palm print, rather than the geometry of their hand. Exclusive UK distributor Databac Group will demonstrate Palm Scan in access control and time and attendance applications at Biometrics 2006.

Tests have shown the percentage of false negative reads as low as 0.1 per cent. The contactless reader can be wall-mounted behind a window, making it both weather- and vandal-proof, as well as 100% hygienic.

The full range of Staff On Time fingerprint systems will also be on display. These solutions put biometric technology within reach of businesses of all sizes.

During the event, Databac will show how biometric templates can be captured and encoded onto smart cards, using a Datacard SP series printer and its popular Dataimage ID software. This simple method enables the personalization of credentials to work with biometric systems: fingerprints or palm prints are verified against the template held on the card, rather than on a central database, for double security and ultra-fast verification.

BioLink reaches for Time and Attendance with BioTime

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

BioLink Solutions announces the upcoming advertising campaign targeted at potential customers for its biometric time management system – BioTime. The campaign starts in September 1, 2006 and is valid through December 25, 2006.
BioTime is an advanced time and attendance system enrolling fingerprints of the company employees, recording employees’ arrival and departure events, and analyzing the information on the actually worked hours. Able to generate various reports, BioTime is a helpful tool for the top managers to increase the efficiency of their business by streamlining the personnel management processes.
Within the framework of the proposed campaign, BioLink offers companies a try&buy version of BioTime containing the BioTime software and a biometric scanner BioLink U-Match MatchBook 3.5. The try&buy version will operate as a fully functional system during 30 days and is offered for testing the product’s core features. The try&buy version allows registering biometric identifiers of up to 50 employees in the biometric database. After the expiration of the 30-day period, the company should buy the BioTime software and biometric equipment, or return it to BioLink.

The procedures of delivering the BioTime try&buys to end users will involve BioLink’s key partners covering all the international markets. Such an organization is expected to significantly simplify and speed up the try&buy bundle delivery.

City of DeLand Adopts Cutting Edge Biometric Time and Attendance System

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

Florida city of DeLand boasts a rich cultural and educational heritage, including Stetson University, the state’s oldest private college, and a downtown area listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Although the city’s old-fashioned Southern charm endears it to residents and tourists alike, DeLand’s Director of Information Services, David Watson, wanted to ensure its time and attendance process was cutting-edge.

In 2004, Watson and his team determined the old paper-based process, including some worn out time clocks, needed updating, and looked to technology to address the issue.

After visiting a time and attendance symposium, Watson knew he had a challenge on his hands. As a city government, DeLand is beholden to taxpayers to run as efficiently and effectively as possible. And even though time and attendance software was an obvious tool to make this happen, Watson also realized that with only about 400 employees, the city would be competing with multinational organizations and their thousands of users when it came to customer service.

DeLand issued a request for proposals for a new time and attendance solution in June 2005. A selection committee consisting of representatives from a variety of departments, including police, public works, recreation, fire, payroll, information technology, finance and development, was established to review applicants.

The committee short-listed three vendors from a field of 23 total respondents. They included Qqest, Kronos, and Perryman and Associates, a local distributor of Unitime Systems.

In evaluating the finalists, the committee was looking for a variety of features and capabilities. The solution needed to offer both desktop and time clock entry options, reporting capabilities, and be able to interface with the city’s out-of-state payroll vendor. The group also wanted a cost-effective solution from a well-established vendor that offered great technical support—even to smaller customers

Time & Attendance - Putting Tech to Work

Tuesday, September 12th, 2006

NY Times has an article encouraging small businesses to make the most of the technology available to them; it’s not nearly as expensive as most may think.

“I’m in a big practice, and some people work here for a long time and they become friends,” says Clarence Stewart, a podiatrist in Raleigh, N.C. “They know how to beat the system. But no one can fake a fingerprint.”

The product he uses, from a company called Count Me In, in Mount Prospect, Ill., can feed information to QuickBooks and other payroll and accounting programs. Rules can also be set in the system’s calendar so that an employee cannot clock in unless he is scheduled to work at that time.

How much does this productivity booster cost?  From $300 for up to 50 employees.

Cybershift featured in PayStream Advisors’ report

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

CyberShift, a leading provider of workforce and expense management software and services, today shared details of the company’s inclusion in PayStream Advisors’ latest report, “Travel & Expense Management: A Buyer’s Guide to Expense Management Solutions.” As part of the report’s coverage of the travel and expense management (TEM) industry, CyberShift’s Necho Expense solution is highlighted as a leading, automated expense management solution.

In this report, PayStream Advisors, a technology research and consulting firm, cites that sophisticated organizations are improving their expense control process through automation. The report details the role that technology plays in, not only streamlining the approval process, but in combating fraud and improving compliance with regulatory requirements. The 65-page report profiles seven TEM solution providers and concludes with a comparative analysis designed to help readers evaluate the best-fit solution for their organization.

“Rising costs from a range of sources, including increasing business travel, fraud, and poor spend visibility and control, on top of the need for greater system integrity and accurate reporting to meet the requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley legislation have led many organizations to seek automated solutions,” stated Sush Koka, Senior Research Analyst at PayStream Advisors. “Necho Expense is a functionality-rich TEM solution with an impressive back-end offering a strong suite of querying and analytical tools. The formidable dashboard functionality also delivers a unique toolkit for senior managers to analyze spend management and drive down costs proactively.”
